well-Woman Exam

Wellness exams are a vital part of staying healthy

A Well-Woman Exam is a yearly preventive visit that includes:

  • A general physical exam
  • Pelvic and breast examinations
  • Review of health history
  • Screening for conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Counseling about reproductive health, birth control options, and lifestyle choices

These exams are essential for early detection of cancer

What is a Pap Smear?

A Pap smear (or Pap test) is a screening procedure for cervical cancer. During the test, a small sample of cells is gently collected from the cervix to look for abnormal or precancerous changes. This is often done during a pelvic exam and is recommended every 1-3 years depending on age and test results.

Breast health

Wellness exams are a vital part of staying healthy

Why Breast Exams Are Important for Women

Breast exams are a key part of preventive health care for women. They help detect changes in breast tissue that could indicate early signs of breast cancer or other conditions. The earlier a problem is found, the better the chances for successful treatment.

Reasons to have regular breast exams:

  1. Early Detection of Breast Cancer: Breast exams can identify lumps or abnormalities that may not be felt during self-checks. Catching cancer early often means more treatment options and better outcomes.
  2. Establishing a Baseline: Regular exams help healthcare providers understand what’s normal for your breasts, making it easier to notice changes over time.
  3. Peace of Mind: Routine exams can reassure you that everything is normal or prompt further testing if needed, helping you stay proactive about your health.
  4. Guidance on Self-Awareness: Your provider can teach you how to perform breast self-exams and what signs to watch for between appointments.

Why get a mammogram?

A mammogram is a low-dose X-ray that can detect breast cancer before it can be felt, often years earlier. It's one of the most effective tools for early detection and is typically recommended starting at age 40, or earlier if you're at higher risk.
